Garbage Pick-Up
Village Ordinance states that you may put your garbage out after 6:00pm on the night before your regular garbage pick-up day. Anyone who puts their garbage out prior to 6:00pm is subject to a fine. Garbage pick-up starts around 7:00am.
Garbage must be placed in a Village of Norridge black covered garbage cart. Each residence was issued a free garbage cart. Additional carts are available in three sizes. (CLICK HERE FOR SIZES AND COST). Recycling must be in either a Village-issued green recycling bin, or the new blue recycling cart.
Your garbage cart(s), yard waste brown bag or container and recycling bin/cart must be either on your parkway or on the curb. Do not put garbage directly onto the street. This will prevent any problems with snow removal or heavy rains. During snow removal carts may get knocked over or moved, so it is important to place them further away from the street.
Garbage Holiday
Listed below are the only holidays that garbage will not be picked up. If your regularly scheduled garbage pick-up falls during a garbage holiday week, garbage will be picked up one day later for the rest of that week. For example, if the holiday falls on a Monday, and your garbage pick up is a Monday, your garbage will be picked-up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s pick up will be Wednesday, etc., for the rest of the week. If your pick-up is on Friday, your garbage will be picked up on Saturday.
This schedule change applies for the following six holidays only:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Fourth of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Garbage will be picked up on your regularly scheduled day on all other National or State Holidays.
Clean-Up Week
The Village holds two clean-up weeks during the year, one in the late spring and one in early fall. Watch the news portion of the web site for dates.
Yard Waste Pick Up
Yard Waste pick-up runs from April 1st through November 30th. Resident can only use the brown yard waste bags or open 30-gallon marked containers for yard waste disposal. Please do not use a container larger than 30-gallons. When filled with grass, larger containers become excessively heavy. Additionally, do not use your old green recycling bin for yard waste disposal; even with a sticker, since it can be difficult to distinguish it from recycling, and they are frequently overlooked since many residents still use the green container for recycling. Yard waste containers with handles are much easier to lift. In addition, please spread your containers out at the curb when placing them, rather than clumping them together, as this makes it easier to identify each container. You may come into the Village Hall and pick up a "Yard Waste Only” sticker. Four foot lengths of branches must be bundled.
