Home MenuSnow Plowing
The Village of Norridge Public Works Department is responsible for plowing all the streets and alleys within the Village boundaries. It is the goal of the Public Works Department to plow the streets in a timely fashion in order to ensure the safety of motorists, residents, and pedestrians.
When a snowstorm first hits, the Superintendent of Public Works will dispatch the crews to all sections and alleys to begin plowing. The first streets to be plowed are the main arterial roads-Montrose Avenue and Canfield Avenue. Please remember that Harlem Avenue, Irving Park Road, Cumberland Avenue, Lawrence Avenue and Forest Preserve Drive are Illinois Department of Transportation streets, and are plowed by IDOT.
In the event of a bad storm, the Village may post information on the cable network or contact you using the BlackBoard Connect system with important information.
Norridge has approximately 39.02 miles of streets and 5 miles of alleys. Our plows could possibly make several trips down your street in the attempt to keep it clear. This may result in snow being thrown back into your driveway after you have shoveled it. This is unavoidable, and if possible, please wait until the snow has stopped and the plows have been through before you clear your driveway. This will eliminate the need to shovel your driveway more than once.
In order to effective clean the streets after a snow fall, or to do routine street maintenance, the Village of Norridge has year round street maintenance days. On your regularly scheduled street maintenance day (signs are posted on your streets) you will have to move your car during the hours of 8-1. The only exception to this rule is if your street maintenance day falls on one of the six (6) Village Holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Fourth of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
On these holidays only, you will not have to move your car.
UPDATE AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2021.....
We all knew the mild weather couldn’t last forever. As Public Works Snow Command prepares for this weekend’s snowstorm, it is likely to drop 6-8 inches of snow over the area. We have received many calls regarding the new parking restrictions that went into effect on October 1st. These restrictions affect residents in NON-DESIGNATED SNOW ROUTE AREAS in the historical section of the Village and those who live east of Harlem Avenue.
Why the change? Like many municipalities, the odd/even snow removal restrictions are in place to aid Public Works in removing the snow quicker and more efficiently.
Why Wednesday – Sunday only? Street Maintenance restriction days in the historic section are Mondays and Tuesdays. You are already moving your cars for these days. As residents are aware, if it snows on a Wednesday, cars do not have to move until the following Monday or Tuesday. By this time the snow has had a chance to freeze over and becomes more difficult to remove.NOTE: THE MAJORITY OF THIS CHANGE EFFECTS THE HISTORIC SECTION AND EAST OF HARLEM. IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA NEAR LEIGH SCHOOL THAT IS AFFECTED, YOUR STREET MAINTENANCE DAYS ARE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.
Where can I park my car? You may park your car on the opposite side of the street, or as you do on your Street Maintenance Day.
PLEASE NOTE: For those of you in DESIGNATED SNOW ROUTE AREAS, your snow route restrictions have not changed. Please move all cars off the street, after 2 inches of snow has fallen, until the snow event is over and snow removal is completed.
The snow route hotline, 708-583-5775, and the Village’s website and Facebook page will be updated once the 2-inch snow fall has been reached.

For those of you in designated snow route areas, you must move your cars once snow fall accumulates 2 inches. A map of the streets that are located in a snow route area can be found HERE. Please check the Village website for those routes or call the snow hotline (708-583-5775) to see if snow route enforcement is in effect.
As of October 1, 2021, streets in non-designated snow route areas will abide by the following regulations after two inches of snow has fallen. A map of the streets that are located in a non-designated snow route area can be found HERE. These regulations shall be in effect from October 1st until April 15th each year:

blocks of Foster Avenue. - Snow route on the even (address) side of the street: on the 7200 and 7300 blocks of Agatite Avenue.

If we receive a large amount of snow, please remember to shovel around your fire hydrant. This will aid the Fire Department in the event of an emergency. Public Works has labeled the street in front of a hydrant with a “ T” , but in the event of snowstorm, this might be difficult to see.
